“Umbra”

Umbra is a relief sculpture measuring 24 x 24 x 2.5 inches. The figures are saw-textured poplar, birch, and mahogany. The night sky shows a pattern of moon rays surrounding the moon. These are created by dipping oval segments of bamboo into a thin paint and stamping onto the panel.

“Runes, Book 2”

Runes, Book 2  is the second mosaic in my “Runes” series. It measures 14 x 32 x 1.75 inches and is composed of stacked painted poplar, cedar, and mahogany woods. The turquoise tiles show the imprints made by using sections of bamboo as “printing blocks” that are dipped in paint and stamped onto a surface. … Read more »

“Confetti Wrap”

Confetti Wrap is the newest of my “gift-wrapped” mosaics.  It is a complex composition using variations of stacked wood tiles: green-stained wood, paint-flecked wood over metal leaf, and tiny accent pieces scattered throughout. The edges of each piece are hand-shaped and painted with gold mica, as is the “ribbon” that wraps across the panel. This panel… Read more »

Mosaic “Wraps”

As my September 2-artist show approaches, I’m running out of time, but not ideas… So, here’s the first finished mosaic (unframed as yet) in this new group – it’s the start of many ideas that will be translated into bamboo and wood. This is what ideas feel… Read more »

If you’re anywhere near the river towns of Lambertville (NJ) and New Hope (PA), please join us Saturday… Read more »

Bamboo as mosaic

Bamboo These elegant bamboo pieces will become part of a larger mosaic, but right now I’m exploring shapes, patinas, “interior” design… Many thanks for subscribing to my blog!

Bamboo as mosaic

Bamboo Here’s a detail of the bamboo-as-mosaic process I’m currently exploring. This is consuming most of my time right now as the ideas are beginning to flow. Gotta go with it! I’ll check back with you soon…

“Earthly Pleasures” on Crafthaus Online

Happening now online is “Earthly Pleasures: It’s Easy to Be Green” on Crafthaus. I have three pieces, all wall-mounted wood mosaics, in this show. One is a natural bamboo mosaic that I posted on November 14 – titled “Bamboo.” Each bamboo tile has a slightly hand-beveled edge. The others mosaics that are on exhibit are… Read more »
