“The Small and Mighty”

Published September 2nd, 2010

Oil Painting
6×6″ beveled panel

As mentioned in previous posts, I’m surrounded by a large collection of natural elements: beach stones, seashells, seedpods - whose beauty I never tire of. I’m particularly interested in the stone textures contrasted with a point of clarity, or transparency, found in the glass sphere.

Please email me about this painting. I’m working on a frame for it.

“Acadia Rocks”

Published August 12th, 2010

Oil Painting
6×8″ gessoed board

At Acadia National Park granite boulders like this one are scattered over wide smooth slabs of rock that serve as natural walkways. Storm clouds enhanced the dramatic view, cooling the landscape colors way down.

Please email me for purchase of this painting.

“Afternoon in the Park”

Oil Painting
8×10″ canvas mounted on panel

This couple had the right idea, tucking into the shade along the banks of the Delaware River. This was the scene one fine afternoon in the Park at Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania.

Please email me for purchase of painting with, or without, this frame.

“Bird on Wire”

Published July 13th, 2010

Oil Painting
6×6″ gessoed card

I looked up and saw the silhouette of a bird, framed by a thick coil of electrical cable, against the bright blue sky… That bird was singing its little heart out!

“Field in Setting Sun”

Published July 7th, 2010

Acrylic Painting
6×8″ beveled panel

Here’s another Bucks County landscape that caught my eye. The late afternoon sun created long, dark shadows across the fields and thankfully I was camera-ready. I need much more time to capture her beauty than Nature will allow so the photo is for reference only; composition and light - not to be slavishly copied. I try to paint my first impression.

Please email me for purchase of this painting.

“Field of Young Trees”

Published June 16th, 2010

Acrylic Painting
6×8″ beveled panel

I love the back roads of Bucks County where I often pass fields of trees like this one. Here’s an impression of the fluttering leaves and flashes of color that caught my eye while I drove by.

Please email me for purchase of the painting.

“Evolution”

Published May 27th, 2010

Oil Painting
6×9″ beveled panel

I started doing paintings of glass spheres and beach stones in the mid-’90s and haven’t stopped. I still find these elements completely absorbing and elusive, paying close attention to which objects to use and how to arrange them. One painting leads to the next and to the next in a continuous stream, as I spontaneously try to capture the essence, in a brushstroke or color, of these things that I love.

If interested, please email me. I typically design and build a “floating” frame for the paintings in this series. See more of the work from my Meditations series in The Art Fly archives and on my website.
