Silverpoint Drawing
10×8″ ocher prepared paper

The Bucks County newspapers have recently published an interview I gave about silverpoint, a drawing medium which pre-dates the graphite pencil. It appeared in these locals: New Hope Life, Yardley Voice, Doylestown Observer, and a few others. Please see Times Publishing Newspapers, Inc. for the full article.

This portrait was based on a photo I took of a mason at work. I loved the hat! Reminiscent of the Renaissance-era – a time when silverpoint was at its height, by the way. My first silverpoints were copied from faces I saw in paintings by Botticelli, DaVinci, VanDyke and many others from that period.

This drawing has been SOLD, but please ask about commissioned portraits from photos.

Sushi is based on a photo that was posted on the Different Strokes from Different Folks blog. Every two weeks a photo is posted, from which artists are challenged to create original work.

“Gazebo Along the Delaware”

Published March 14th, 2009

Oil Painting
5×7″ panel

I love this little spot along the Delaware River at Washington Crossing, PA; that’s New Jersey across the way. To see another painting of this subject go all the way back to my blog post of November 5, 2008.

The panel has finished beveled edges. The buyer will receive a tabletop easel with this painting.

“Bunny”

Silverpoint Drawing
6.5×6.5″ lavender prepared paper

“Bunny” is drawn in silverpoint: a drawing medium that was used extensively during the Renaissance era – though some of the earliest drawings date to the 12th century. A stylus of silver metal, inserted in a holder, is used on a specially coated surface. I prepared the paper with a lavender tone and heightened the drawing with white charcoal. Over time the silver lines tarnish to a metallic sepia tone.

“Morning Fog”

Published March 3rd, 2009

Oil Painting
5×7″ panel

There are woods in the back of our house but this morning the fog was so thick only the nearest ones could be seen when I first looked out. Within 45 minutes or so the fog had lifted.

This painting is SOLD. I may have similar paintings available, so please email me.
